Wizards add their level to the dispell roll.Irresistible dispels do not cause a miscast However, if you roll an irresistible force the spell is cast as in 7th ed and the caster suffers a miscast on a really nasty table! If you fail to cast a spell the wizard can not cast again this phase. You cast as before, but if your total is less than 3 you fail to cast. You may never have more than 12 power or dispel dice Each wizard may generate an extra dispel/power die for the pool if they roll a 6.The highest roll is the number of dispel dice Every magic phase your army generates 2d6 power dice.Players can switch between casters at any time.Wizard levels now add to your casting roll and do not generate power dice.only ones people will use) missions are No Mercy (kill points), Big Guns, Scouring, the Relic, Retrieval Mission (crusade), as well as Secure and Control (Emperor's Will.) Still almost identical to 7E, with the above changes of course. 0001 inches closer, so I win!!" arguments happening with that mission. There are going to be a LOT of "no way I am.

Only infantry can carry it, which is fine, but you win if you're carrying it (and you can choose not to take casualties until that's the last model, so…) and if no one carries it you win by being the closest. Relic is a lot harder to control and more fiddly now. Wish they'd taken a page from ITC and gone with a larger array of secondary objectives, though. It does incentivize smaller armies more, which is good- MSU has been very dominant for a long time.įirst Blood is still in, which isn't great. Deploy so you don't get Seized on, my dudes.Īlternating deployment will take more time for sure, but hopefully lower unit count (and other stuff) will make up for it. Seizing and random game length are still in I guess. Kinda weird that Scouring doesn't, though. Gonna be real annoying to measure the not-quite-dawn of war one.īig Guns giving a bonus for HS units is very good. Though in Relic, kill points, and capture-the-draw winning the roll-off allows you to pick zones, rather than losing, so really it goes both ways on that- you want to either win or lose, depending on the mission. I feel like "losing" the roll-off to place objectives is gonna be strongly advantageous most of the time, though, since it lets you pick deployment type AND deployment zones. We'll see how it actually works out in practice, but in theory at least it makes for an interesting choice. Picking deployment type when you lose to roll-off for objectives is a very interesting mechanic. Some familiar deployment types in the mix of course, but I have to say I really like the way Spearhead assault and Frontline Assault look so purposeful in their illustrations. There is no null-deployment (half of an army’s units must be on the table at the start of the game), and no last second objective grab from reserves (anything not on the table by the end of turn 3 is destroyed). Each strategem can only be used once per phase.Other than Smite, each psychic power can only be used once per turn.Three rules, all of which appear to be designed to create a more balanced game. (no offense meant to the many Bothans who died to bring us these plans). I’ve increased the size and boosted the contrast of the images, but let’s just say these spy photos are really not of a quality likely to discourage anyone from buying the real books! That creates a healthy 72 different combination of mission and deployments, which should provide a lot of tactical challenges for Matched Play. We can now preview the 6 different types of Deployment and the 12 different standard missions for 8th Edition 40k.
